A TRIP TO VENETO: SOAVE & VERONA

Eccomi di nuovo qui per raccontarvi i due giorni stupendi trascorsi in Veneto con Luca, ci siamo presi una pausa dallo stress cittadino e ci siamo rilassati, mangiando sano e gustando del buon vino...

I'm back again to tell you the two wonderful days spent in Veneto with Luca, we took a break from stress and we relaxed eating healthy and enjoying good wine…

Siamo stati ospiti di un grazioso agriturismo arroccato sulle colline di Soave in provincia di Verona, in un contesto paesaggistico davvero suggestivo. Gli edifici, che risalgono al '700, sono stati restrutturati mantenendo inalterato l'aspetto di corte rurale e sono stati ricavati 5 alloggi indipendenti arredati in stile ottocentesco. L'agriturismo é dotato di un solarium con piscina, di una sala per le colazioni e di una cantina  adibita a enoteca con le migliori etichette del territorio. (Noi abbiamo acquistato per la nostra cantinetta a casa 3 bottiglie di Soave classico, 2 di Passito e 2 di Valpolicella)

We stayed in a lovely farm nestled on the top of Soave hills, a town near Verona with a really suggestive landscape. The buildings, dated 18th century, were rebuited preserving the rural aspect of the court. There were  5 independent apartments furnished in old style. The farm has a solarium with swimming pool, a breakfast room and a winery with some of the best wines of the area. (We bought  3 bottles of Soave classic, 2 Passito and 2 Valpolicella)

Appena arrivati nel pomeriggio, nonostante la pioggia, siamo stati a visitare il castello di Soave, tipico manufatto militare del Medioevo che sorge sul Monte Tenda dominando la pianura sottostante. È costituito da un mastio e da tre cortili con dimensioni differenti. Al centro della corte si trova un pozzo antico mentre a destra c'é la stanza destinata al corpo di guardia dove abbiamo visto le armi usate dai soldati scaligeri. Una scala esterna permette di entrare in quella che era l'abitazione del signore o del suo rappresentante. La stanza centrale è detta “la Caminata” per via del grande camino presente. Dalla “Caminata” si accede poi ad un cortile piccolo. Molto suggestivo é il panorama che si vede dalla torre del castello dove si arriva per un percorso esterno a gradini. 

In the afternoon, (It was rainy!) we went to visit the castle of Soave, a typical medieval military artifact located on the top of Monte Tenda and overlooking the valley below. It has a tower and three courtyards of different dimensions. At the center of the courtyard there is an ancient well and to the right there is the room where we saw the weapons used by Scaligeri soldiers. An external staircase allows to the house of the “Lord”. The central room is called "La Caminata" because of its large fireplace. From "La Caminata" you can arrive to a small courtyard. Very impressive is the view you can see from the tower of the castle.

Dopo la visita al castello siamo andati a vedere il centro della cittadina che purtroppo é stato 

colpito da un'alluvione che ha causato danni a molti negozi e ristoranti collocati nella parte più bassa del centro. Molti di voi ricorderanno la pesante alluvione che aveva colpito Soave nel novembre 2010...

After visiting the castle, we went to see the town, which was hit by a flood that caused damage to many shops and restaurants located in the lower part of the center. 

La sera abbiamo cenato in una graziosa enoteca del centro che propone oltre 30 tipi di Soave oltre a quelli in versione dolce e spumante e altri vini veneti per un totale di 100 etichette. Questo wine bar  propone piatti particolari: noi abbiamo mangiato tortellini al crudo e polenta alla griglia con formaggi insieme al tastasal' una sorta di bruschetta farcita. Cibo e vino erano ottimi.... :D

La mattina seguente i proprietari dell'agriturismo ci hanno preparato una colazione con prodotti freschi fatti in casa: sono rimasta estasiata nell'assaggiare la torta alle noci e lo yogurth con la confettura d'arance!

A malincuore siamo poi partiti in direzione Verona che dista da Soave circa 25 km. 

Questa città mi stupisce sempre per i suoi vicoli romantici, i bei negozi e la suggestiva arena. Il tempo poi era caldo e soleggiato e ci ha permesso di fare una bella passeggiata tra i vicoli della città. Anche qui non ci siamo privati del buon cibo veneto e ci siamo fermati in un grazioso wine bar per l'aperitivo con vino e Spritz.

Più tardi sulla strada del ritorno verso casa ci siamo fermati al Franciacorta Outlet Village nei pressi di Brescia, una cittadella di negozi costruita attorno ad un'antica cascina, con strade e piazze pubbliche dove si affacciano negozi, bar e ristoranti;
..... un vero e proprio borgo dove passeggiare, e fare shopping. 

E' stato bello proprio in occasione del''anniversario dei 150 anni di Unità d'Italia poter dedicare un po' di tempo ad ammirare le bellezze naturali, rivivere la storia e assaporare il buon cibo che il nostro paese vanta.

In the evening we had dinner in a nice wine restaurant that offers over 100 different types of wines, both sweet and sparkling, from Veneto. This wine bar also offers special dishes: we ate tortellini with ham and grilled polenta with cheese. Food and wine were excellent .... : D 

The next morning we had a breakfast with fresh home-made products: I eat a delight cake with walnuts and yogurt with orange marmalade! 

Then we left Soave to go to Verona which is about 25 km far. 

This city it’s amazing for its narrow streets, beautiful shops and the impressive Arena. The weather was warm and sunny and we took a walk through the alleys of the city. Later we stopped in a nice wine bar for a drink. 

On the way back we stopped at Franciacorta Outlet Village near Brescia, a town of shops built around an old farmhouse, with streets and squares full of shops, bars and restaurants; 

..... a real town to walk and do shopping. 

It was great for me to celebrate the 150 years of Italy Unification spending two days admiring the natural beauties, learning history and enjoying the good food of my beautiful country!
